Mel B's friend reveals how she broke several ribs and 'severed' her hand

Mel B shocked her fans yesterday when she posted on Instagram a snap of her in a hospital corridor and claimed to have broken two ribs and ‘severed’ her right hand.

But the surprising picture begged many questions. Most importantly – how did the 43-year-old singer sustain such serious injuries?

According to Mel B’s ‘close friend’, Gary Madatyan, she severely hurt herself after falling down the stairs while staying at a friend’s house.

Madatyan spoke exclusively to TMZ, and told the US based showbiz news source that she decided to go downstairs during the night and lost her footing and fell.

Mel B’s lawyer Taline Boyamian added to TMZ that neither drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident. He also confirmed that Mel B was set to fly out to Los Angeles on Sunday for a court-ordered drug test on Monday, as part of her ongoing divorce settlement with her ex-husband Stephen Belafonte.

Boyamian claims that all of Mel B’s court-ordered drug tests have been clean so far.

Mel B has also provided another hospital update on her official Instagram account. Posting a boomerang shot on Instagram with three of her fellow Spice Girls – Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell and Mel C – but no sight or word from Victoria Beckham yet.

The photo’s caption states: “When your besties show up to hospital with hugs laughter and A LOT of love, ahhhh I love my spice girls yipppeee #friendship #family #spicegirls.”

In addition to her divorce proceedings, Mel B is in the middle of an international book tour for her memoir Brutally Honest, which includes accounts of the alleged abuse she suffered from her ex-husband Belafonte.

Mel B is also set for a UK stadium Spice Girls tour with Mel C, Geri Halliwell and Emma Bunton in 2019.
