Morgan Wallen dropped by agency after racial slur controversy

Morgan Wallen has been dropped by his agency after a video emerged of him shouting a racial slur.

This week, the rising country music star was seen coming home from a night out with friends when he yelled the N-word at a friend twice.

The video, reportedly filmed by neighbours annoyed at the late-night disturbance and then shared by TMZ, sparked outrage and Wallen was swiftly removed from radio playlists in the US.

Shortly afterwards, his label Big Loud Records suspended his contract indefinitely and the Academy of Country Music Awards revoked his eligibility for this year’s ceremony.

Deadline now reports that the William Morris Agency has also dropped him from its roster of clients.

“I'm embarrassed and sorry,” Wallen told TMZ in response to the video being shared. “I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologise for using the word. I promise to do better.”

Wallen’s latest record, Dangerous: The Double Album, has topped the Billboard chart for the past three weeks.

The video of him uttering the racial slur is far from the first time the 27-year-old has been embroiled in controversy.

Wallen was arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct outside Kid Rock’s Nashville bar in May 2020.

In October that same year, his Saturday Night Live appearance was cancelled after TikTok videos of him partying with young college women and breaching coronavirus protocols went viral on social media.

He was replaced by Jack White, but later given a second chance and allowed to perform on the NBC sketch show, on which he took part in a skit that poked fun at his partying.
