Motorist suffers 'serious injuries' as 999 crews descend on A49 crash

A motorist has suffered 'serious injuries' following a rush-hour smash between a truck and car. Police, firefighters and paramedics had been scrambled to the A49 between Tarporley and Oakmere at around 7.40am - with the route subsequently shut off.

Now Cheshire Police has confirmed the driver of the car involved in the Oakmere collision has sustained 'serious injuries' with the trucker injured. And Tarporley Road is set to stay shut between the A556 at Sandiway and A54 in Oakmere.

Police say they responded to reports of a collision between a HGV and car, close to the junction with Overdale Lane, at around 7.40am. They were joined at the scene by firefighters from Northwich and Winsford with paramedics also sent to the incident.

A spokesman for the force said: "Officers attended the scene and found there had been a collision between a car and a HGV, near to the junction of Overdale Lane. The driver of the car has sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision. The driver of the HGV is uninjured.

"The A49 is currently closed in both directions between the A556 at Sandiway, and the A54 in Oakmere. Diversions are in place, but motorists are advised to avoid the area at this time."
