Motorists warned overloading car with belongings could result in £1,000 fine

Motorists have been warned that overloading their cars with belongings could result in a £1,000 fine. It can be tempting to overpack vehicles, especially if when going on a road trip and/or holiday which requires an overnight's stay.

Sometimes we might have to pack multiple suitcases along with other bags containing our essential items. But motoring experts at Hippo Leasing have warned drivers that cramming too much into cars could result in a £1,000 fine.

Motorists risk a fine when the view is obstructed from the front and rear windows. The Highways Code states that all windows must be kept clean and clear.

People also risk three points on their license if their view is obstructed by belongings. Hippo Leasing said it recommended drivers "think carefully about how they pack luggage into the car".

A spokesperson said: "It’s important not to obstruct the view from the front and rear windows as this could lead to a £1,000 fine and three points on your license for failure to have a full view of the road."
