AN Italian restaurant which has been based in the town for more than 20 years has sadly closed.

Delgados, on Honiton Way in Penketh, has revealed it is sadly closing its doors.

The eatery took to social media today to say it was now permanently closed.

It thanked customers for their support.

Customers took to social media to wish owners good luck for the future.

Last year it warned costs were causing pressures.

Posting on social media at the time, Delgados said: “Please remember to book in well in advance so we know we have people coming in.

“We had to close early again last night because we had no-one in. Got no-one booked in for tonight yet either.

“Unfortunately, I cannot afford to stay open on the off chance I ‘might’ get a walk in.

“It has been a struggle these last two years and it is not getting any easier.

“Delgados has been here for 22 years, but if business does not get better, I am dangerously close to not being able to afford to continue any longer.

“Please remember to support your local independent businesses, not just us, but everyone. Thank you.”

The plea follows a similar appeal 12 months ago, when in September 2022 owner and head chef Andrew Stafford urged residents to dine out and ditch takeaways if they want to save local businesses.

Delgados has been in the area for more than two decades, having first opened its doors in 2001.
