Nathaniel Adjei is Rangers transfer 'target' as Philippe Clement set to battle Anderlecht and others for Hammarby star

Nathaniel Adjei is the latest Rangers transfer target this summer as the rebuild gathers pace.

The Ghanaian centre back spent last season on loan at Lorient, with an obligation to buy kicking in if they stayed in Ligue 1. However, their relegation means that while that option still exists, it is no longer mandatory, which has opened the door to other clubs. Swedish outlet Expressen claim that Rangers are one of those who want to buy Adjei. And while they also link Feyenoord, Strasbourg and Reims, the Ibrox club and Anderlecht are thought to be the front runners.

They claim that both clubs are willing to pay around £3.5million for 21-year old. However, Hammarby value him at closer to £5million. Opening bids are expected to be launched shortly but some negotiation will be needed for the parties to agree on a fee. Philippe Clement has been linked with a move for Chilean defender Thomas Gladames, while the experienced Leon Balogun signed a one-year contract extension.

But Steven Gerrard wants to take Connor Goldson to Saudi Arabia and Clement clearly wants to add another centre back regardless. Further up the park and Bayern Munich winger Yusuf Kabadayi is expected to make the move from Bavaria, while Kosovan striker Albion Rrahmani is also a reported target.

Connor Barron is expected to have a Rangers medical, although how much he will end up costing remains to be seen. Aberdeen will be due £500,000 training compensation, although a transfer tribunal could well set a higher fee should the Light Blues decide to roll the dice.
