Reports had surfaced that Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be taking his role as John Blake from 'The Dark Knight Rises' a step further by becoming Batman in the planned 'Justice League'' movie.

It had been reported on Hitfix that the star would be getting a role in the movie, following on from 'The Dark Knight Rises' ending in which it seemed he would be taking on Batman's legacy in some form to DC Comics' superhero team-up movie.

Drew McWeeny of the website even asserted that we may see JGL in the batsuit sooner, taking a role in the forthcoming Superman film 'Man of Steel'.

The cameo would mirror Marvel's decision to put Robert Downey Jr in 2008's 'The Incredible Hulk' ahead of 'The Avengers', which brought their comic-book characters together. All the franchises are made by Warner Bros and DC.

However the actor's people have denied the rumour according to Entertainment Weekly, scuppering DC Comics fans' dreams of Christopher Nolan's Batman movies being the basis for the roll-out of the wider universe that will begin with Zak Snyder's take on Superman.

Although Nolan's producing the 'Superman' movie, it would seem to be difficult to create a tie-in with the Batman films he directed without Gordon-Levitt's involvement.

Also counting against the move would be the fact that Nolan's Batman appeared to be set in a non-super-hero based reality, with Batman and the villains in the films lacking special powers, rather using great strength and technology to save or condemn the world.

Will Gordon-Levitt be starring? It seems not. But with Christopher Nolan's reputation for secrecy, you never know...
