There is an engineer on site, with the power outage affecting a handful of properties, but Island Roads has implemented an emergency road closure on Staplers Road, at the junctions with Long Lane and Blacklands Lane, "due to a police incident".

Also, Southern Vectis posted to say its buses are unable to serve Landscape Lane, the Isle of Wight Monkey Haven, Butterfly World or Wootton Common crossroads.

"Buses are currently being diverting from Staplers roundabout, Long Lane and between Briddlesford Road and Wootton Station, in both directions," the company has said.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has been contacted for a statement.

Scottish and Southern Electricity predicts the outage will be fixed by 4pm.
