Police issue update on investigation after driver said 'brakes failed' on motorway

A POLICE investigation is still ongoing months after the driver of an electric car said he was unable to brake on the motorway in Warrington.

The incident happened back in March this year when officers were contacted by the driver of a Jaguar I-Pace who reported there was a fault with this vehicle.

The driver told officers that he was unable to brake and that he was travelling on the M58 in Merseyside.

Officers attended the scene and escorted the vehicle as it travelled onto the M57 and then onto the M62 eastbound through Warrington.

Once on the M62, officers from Cheshire Police, Merseyside Police, and Greater Manchester Police, worked together to stop all other traffic.

They then used a police car to help to bring the vehicle to a stop between junction 10, Croft, and junction 11, Birchwood.

All traffic was held as a result, with long queues remaining for hours afterwards.

Following the incident, the driver spoke of the terror he felt after he said his ‘brakes failed’.

But a week later, Merseyside Police revealed it had arrested a man in relation to the incident on suspicion of dangerous driving and causing a public nuisance.

Officers then confirmed the man had been released under investigation, pending further enquiries.

As of today, Friday, May 24, these investigations remain ongoing, a Merseyside Police spokesperson told the Warrington Guardian.
