A city centre pub has closed for a 'significant six-figure makeover'.

The William Gladstone pub, just across the road from Mathew Street, is closed until next month and is being completely transformed.

The landmark pub on North John Street is currently a building site as it gets transformed into a chain cocktail bar that prides itself on its lively, party atmosphere.

The classic pub will become the second 'Be At One' cocktail bar in Liverpool, after the first opened on Seel Street in 2016.

The city centre pub will become the 38th Be At One in the UK and just the third in the north-west after their venue in Salford and the aforementioned Seal Street bar.

A spokesperson for Stonegate, the pub company that owns the pub, said: "Get ready, Liverpool. The William Gladstone is set to reopen next month as the newest Be At One venue after a significant six-figure makeover. We're bringing a vibrant new look and feel, and a cocktail menu bursting at the seams with over 100 concoctions, offering everything from timeless classics to adventurous new creations ... The new venue also has top-tier mixologists sharing their secrets in our epic cocktail masterclasses.

"We can't wait to create unforgettable memories with the community in our revamped space."
