Rangers have struck a £1.7million deal for Hamza Igamane and hope to back it up with the capture of Connor Barron this week.

The Light Blues are expected to announce the signing of FAR Rabat’s Moroccan under-23 striker over the next few days. The deal for the 21-year-old is now subject to a 21-year-old passing a medical and finalising the move. Igamane, who has missed FAR Rabat’s recent games through injury, is seen as one of the most exciting young talents in the Moroccan game.

The young striker is in contention to be named in the Moroccan squad for this summer’s Olympics. If he was selected it would mean Igamane would miss a big chunk of Rangers’ pre-season. The Ibrox club have also upped the ante in their bid to sign Barron on freedom of contract. Rangers have made an improved offer with the out-of-contract star also weighing up offers from Hellas Verona, Plymouth, Stoke, Cardiff and Swansea who all want to land him.

The 21-year-old will make a decision now he has returned from holiday. Aberdeen would be due around £525,000 in training compensation if he was to move outside Scotland.

Rangers would need to agree a fee with Aberdeen or take their chances on a tribunal if they were to go and sign Barron. Igamane and Barron both fall into the transfer policy that Rangers has adopted this summer, signing players 24 or under and with a future value.

Rangers have been in that market this summer, signing Brazilian Jefte, defender Clinton Nsiala from AC Milan and Oscar Cortes’ loan from Lens has also been extended with an obligation to buy. The Ibrox side remain keen on Bayern Munich winger Yusuf Kabadayi.
