ONE of two men who admitted burglary at the closed Craven Heifer pub in Skipton has been given a community sentence.

Jacob Ratayak, 33, of Springbank Road, Morley, Leeds, pleaded guilty last month to burglary with intent to steal at the pub on May 10.

Skipton Magistrates Court heard that Ratayak, and his co-accused, Kian Jones, 19, entered the  Grassington Road pub, which has been closed since July last year,  and left empty handed. They were seen on monitoring equipment by a security firm employed by owners the Tarn Moor Trust following repeated break-ins at the property.

When the police arrived, the pair was parked in the car park in a van which was carrying an angle-grinder and bolt-cutters.

At Harrogate Magistrates Court on June 27, following pre-sentence reports, Ratayak was given a community sentence with 15 days rehabilitation activity and 100 hours unpaid work. The court also made a forfeiture and destruction order for the bolt cutters, drill and angle grinder.

Kian Jones, of Butterbowl Drive, Leeds, who also pleaded guilty to burglary with intent to steal at Skipton Magistrates Court in May, is due to be sentenced at Harrogate Magistrates Court on July 12.
