Manchester United Women's boss Marc Skinner has signed a new contract with the club.

Skinner's previous deal was set to expire this summer but the club confirmed today the 41-year-old has now signed a one-year extension with an option for a further year. The former Birmingham City and Orlando Pride manager joined United in the summer of 2021 and went on to lead the team to a record-breaking 2022/23 season, finishing second in the Women's Super League (WSL), securing Champions League qualification for the first time and reaching a maiden Women's FA Cup final.

After falling short in the battle for silverware last term, Skinner led the team to a first major trophy in last weekend's Women's FA Cup final, with the Reds beating Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 at Wembley Stadium. The manager, though, has divided opinion amongst supporters, with United currently 17 points behind WSL leaders Chelsea and set to finish outside of the European places.

However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is obviously convinced of Skinner's abilities, with the INEOS hierarchy having signed off on the terms of his new deal.

“It’s an honour to extend my stay at Manchester United," Skinner said. "I’ve always felt at home here, with our excellent players, staff and fans.

"Being able to secure the team’s first major trophy at Wembley was a real career highlight for me and another sign of our continued growth, on and off the field. Thanks to everyone who has supported me on this journey, and I look forward to creating many more winning memories together.”

Matt Johnson, interim head of women’s football, added: “Everyone at Manchester United is delighted to see Marc continue as women’s team head coach and build on the success of the team’s historic FA Cup win. Congratulations to Marc on his contract extension and we all wish him and the team the best of luck going into the new season.”
