Six arrested for drug driving in one day in town as part of police crackdown

Police arrested six people in an east Suffolk town for drug driving in one day.

Suffolk police conducted visible foot patrols across Leiston, recording speeding, driving without insurance, carrying an insecure load, not wearing a seatbelt and driving a vehicle without an MOT as other offences during monitoring.

Last Friday, six arrests were made for drug-driving - and other traffic offences recorded included speeding, driving without insurance, carrying an insecure load and not wearing a seatbelt.

Suffolk Police worked with East Suffolk Council, Fire & Rescue and East Suffolk Services (Image: Suffolk Police) Locality Inspector Liz Casey said: “Our impact day not only highlighted a number of areas of concern to residents but also provided a visible presence across the town.

"Of course, our work continues throughout the year but we were able to reassure people... and deal with a wide range of offences.”

Joining teams with other partners for the community safety day, Suffolk police carried out checks on commercial vehicles, fly-tipping, licensed premises and residential fire safety.

Officers were also working with housing, waste, licencing, environmental protection and corporate fraud teams from East Suffolk Council, Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service and East Suffolk Service.
