"Well I will tell you what, he overdosed on cold sore tablets.
"I am not joking, I'm not joking, I'm not. He overdosed on cold sore tablets and his liver function, because he did it for a full week, taking ten of these things, 'cause he said 'Oh they're fine'.
"And he did it to me when I thought I felt a tingle and he said. 'darling take six of these and you'll be fine' and you're only meant to take two, one day when you feel the tingle. Not 10 a day for a week."
She added: "But I think he was slightly thrilled because he was in hospital."
This meant Williams was left alone looking after their children, son Theodore, four, three-year-old daughter Gigi and 15-month-old son Otto.
Matthews, 35, said on their couples podcast Spencer and Vogue: "I was hospitalised for three days. I actually had to get them to put me under the pain was so bad."
He revealed he was vomiting and unable to sleep for two days he was in so much pain, when he finally agreed to visit a doctor and was sent immediately to hospital.
He went on: "They couldn't find a vein, my veins had collapsed because I was so dehydrated, the guy was about to whip out my appendix.
"Then all of a sudden the liver became the issue. I get checked out of hospital, but my liver's not great. I as like, 'My liver's been through hell, so this is something I'll certainly recover from.' "
