Steph McGovern has revealed she had a stalker when she worked at the BBC.

The former 'Watchdog' and 'BBC Breakfast' star has revealed the male was convinced he was in a relationship with her, despite her having no idea who he was, and he would follow her everywhere and even write to her family.

However, as soon as the broadcaster's security team intervened, the man left her alone.

Sharing the scary ordeal, she told the Express: "I had a stalker when I was at the BBC. It was just some guy turning up everywhere I went.

"He ended up writing to my family, saying he was in a relationship with me. It was really crazy, but BBC security dealt with it. I think they told him to go away, there were no charges. Once he was told to stop, he did."

Steph had no idea how the man got her family's address but admits that it "comes with the job" when you are in the public eye.

She added: "It was frightening when it went to my parents, as I did not know how he found out where they lived. Sadly, I think it comes with the job, as that is part of the success of being on TV."

Steph sharing her stalker experience comes after her daytime show 'Steph's Packed Lunch' was axed by Channel 4.

The programme is being taken off the air this December by Channel 4 after three years, so the broadcaster can "invest" in other regional shows outside of London.

In a statement, it explained: "With audience habits changing quicker than ever, we have to make difficult decisions about which programmes to invest in to best drive our digital-first strategy.

"We remain as committed as ever to our mission to help level up the TV industry outside London and to our 50 per cent origination out-of-London target."

Channel 4 added: "We will continue to build on the legacy of the show. Evolving what we do in line with our digital ambitions whilst continuing to reflect the lives of, and give a voice to, all our audiences across the UK and hope to work with Steph on other projects soon."

The show airs weekdays at 12pm, and it's not known what programme will replace the slot.
