The 66-year-old has openly condemned celebs and their antics - however the outspoken legend hasn't named any names in the attack. During a chat with CNN, Sir Elton launched into the tirade against Twitter-using celebrities and reality TV stars, telling anchor Christiane Amanpour: "We focus so much on celebrity in our culture and we don't focus on the right things."

Eager to point out that plenty of people struggle to make money, the multi-millionaire recording artist highlighted teachers as an underpaid. "[There are] vacuous, talentless, horror shows that they get paid millions of dollars for when there are people who are teaching kids every day that are trying to scrape by and earn a living," he added. "It's a joke."

Sir Elton then hit out at the way stars earn their cash, complaining that he's "sick" of constantly being confronted with celebs and their antics. Times have certainly changed since the 'Crocodile Rock' star found fame with his debut solo album 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' back in 1969 and social media isn't very high on the star's priority list.

"And I'm so sick of seeing celebrities on covers of magazines and on – tweeting, and on Facebook and reality shows," he continued. "It's disgusting."

When Christiane attempted to point out that sir Elton and his fellow interviewee, tennis champion Bille Jean Kin , are also celebs, the 'Your Song' singer was keen to seperate himself from other stars. "I know. I hate them," he responded. "I hate the celebrity that is around now."

Sir Elton also took the chance to voice his views on Russia's current LGBT community issues, explaining that he won't be cancelling trips to the country. "I’ve been going there since 1979 and I have had great times in Russia," he explained.

"What's happening there is so awful, but I've been asked to go. People from the LGBT community over there have said please come. I don't want to abandon them. I mean, if you don't go, you know, you're saying 'stick it'."

Sir Elton, who has been an active equal rights campaigner for many years, explaiend that by visiting the country he hopes to help highlight ongoing issues.

"I'm going to do is meet with the LGBT community," explained the 'Candle In The Wind' singer. "I'm going to say something from the stage that’s not going to be - that’s going to be meaningful."
