Texas Crew Drives Through Leaping Flames in Fire-Hit Panhandle

The intensity of fire activity in the Texas Panhandle on February 27 was dramatically shown in video recorded by a crewmember from Greenville Fire-Rescue as their truck drove through leaping flames, sparks and smoke during their response in the area.

Greenville Fire-Rescue said it had deployed teams in Canadian and Wheeler in the Panhandle, and were “proud to have the capabilities and training to help other communities in their time of need.”

The Smokehouse Creek Fire had burned through more than 300,000 acres of land by early Wednesday.

Authorities issued evacuation orders on Tuesday afternoon for parts of Hemphill County as the fire encroached on populated areas. Credit: Greenville Fire-Rescue via Storyful
