Traffic chaos in Middlesbrough as serious collision closes busy road

Motorists in Middlesbrough faced traffic chaos on Tuesday after a collision closed a busy road.

Marton Road in Middlesbrough was closed by Cleveland Police between Ladgate Lane (Marton Crossroads) and Regent Road following a single vehicle collision. The incident happened at around 1.10pm.

Traffic was being diverted through Easterside from Marton Road. On Ladgate Lane, tailbacks stretched towards Normanby top during rush hour, with the situation described as "chaos".

A statement issued by Cleveland Police said: "Officers have closed Marton Road near James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough following a serious collision. Please avoid the area whilst the incident is dealt with."

It was confirmed that the incident was a single vehicle collision. Pictures from the scene showed a car had left the road near to Broughton Avenue.

The road was reopened shortly after 5.00pm. Cleveland Police thanked motorists and residents affected whilst emergency services dealt with the incident and officers carried out initial post-collision investigation work.
