UK Border Force System Outage Leads to Long Lines at Airports

A UK Border Force outage that prevented systems functioning, including e-gates, caused long delays at airports across the country on Tuesday evening, May 7.

The outage lasted several hours, leaving passengers stranded in long lines at UK airports as officials scrambled to get the systems back online.

Footage by X user @waz_86 showed several rows of disgruntled passengers waiting at the UK border area at Stansted Airport.

The source told Storyful that he waited three hours. “The queue was hardly moving and this was after midnight,” he said.

Airports around the country, including Heathrow and Bristol, announced the systems, including e-gates, were “back up and running" early on Wednesday morning.

Passengers were seen cheering and applauding as the e-gates came back online at Heathrow.

The Home Office spokesperson told the BBC “at no point was border security compromised, and there is no indication of malicious cyber activity.” Credit: @waz_86 via Storyful
