Cementing your head inside a microwave oven is always going to be a risky business, but for some YouTuber’s that’s part of the fun – until it stops being funny.

West Midlands firefighters weren’t laughing when they spent an hour removing the oven from this prankster’s head – and they made their thoughts on the matter clear on Twitter, writing that they were “seriously unimpressed” to have spent an hour on the self-inflicted emergency.

After covering his head in a carrier bag, Jay Swingler, 22, inserted a plastic tube into his mouth and stuck his head in the microwave, before Polyfilla was poured on top by fellow prankster, Romell Henry.

When the plaster set, Jay’s friends tried unsuccessfully to free him, eventually calling 999 when he said he was having difficulty breathing.

A fire engine and ambulance arrived at the property in Fordhouses, Wolverhampton, on Wednesday, five minutes after the emergency call was made.

Naturally, the whole unfortunate episode was filmed for their YouTube channel, TGFbro, which has 3m subscribers.

Watch Commander Shaun Dakin, the officer in charge of the crew who responded, said: “As funny as this sounds, this young man could quite easily have suffocated or have been seriously injured.

“Taking the microwave apart was tricky, because a lot of it was welded. We video-called our technical rescue colleagues for advice and eventually managed to get him unstuck.”

Jay said of the moment his head was finally freed: “I’ve never appreciated life so much, ever.”

The video of the incident has been viewed more than 900,000 times since it was shared to their channel yesterday (Thursday).

It begins with Jay announcing that “This is the day where I probably kill myself”.

Mr Dakin added: “He was very relieved when we removed a large chunk of the Polyfilla with a screwdriver, allowing him to breathe more easily. But we had to be extremely careful with the screwdriver, working so closely to his head.

“It took us nearly an hour to free him. All of the group involved were very apologetic, but this was clearly a call-out which might have prevented us from helping someone else in genuine, accidental need.”
