Vibrant colours to fill town as Bourne Free Pride Festival returns

VIBRANT colours, music and dancing are set to take over Bournemouth town centre as the annual pride celebrations return.

The Bourne Free Pride Festival will take place on July 5 and 6, promising community spirit and a warm welcome for everyone.

The event will be ‘more than just a festival’ and will be a ‘celebration of diversity, acceptance, and unity’.

Organisers said it will offer a space for members of the LGBTQ+ community and for allies to ‘dance, relax, educate yourself and enjoy the company of like-minded individuals’.

It is planned to be a safe haven for all, ‘fostering an environment of respect and love’.

The festival begins with a free family event on Friday in Meyrick Park, open to all, offering inclusive activities for the whole family.

Then, on Saturday, the festival continues with a paid-for event with live music performances from local and national artists, drag shows and a range of food and craft stalls.

A highlight of the weekend is the parade, starting at 11am on Saturday, which will fill the streets with colours, laughter and pride.

There will also be a community village which will offer ‘a place to relax’ while engaging in conversations about inclusivity and equality.

Across the two days there will be workshops and educational sessions, providing opportunities to learn about LGBTQ+ issues and history.

This aims to foster understanding and acceptance, making the festival an educational experience as well as a celebration.

Organisers said pride this year will be an ‘inclusive event where they can feel safe, be themselves, and fully immerse in the joyous atmosphere’.

“Bourne Free is a safe space for everyone to feel like they can be themselves," said Dawn Lewis, co-chair of Bourne Free.

“It's a place where people can dance, relax, educate themselves, and immerse themselves in the community. Whether you are part of the community or an ally, all are welcome.”

Tickets for the event on Saturday cost £20 for adults, £5 for children and free for carers.

Those attending the free event on Friday must also register for free tickets.
