Ukraine: living amid the violence in Kramatorsk

Residents of the eastern Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk surveyed destroyed buildings as they described another night of shelling on July 2-3. “Everything was shaking and all my windows shattered,” said local resident Natalia Nikolayovna. Pensioner Valentyna told reporters: “What have they done? How can we live? Our pension hasn’t been paid for three months. Or child benefit. I don’t know how we can manage to live, on water and water. We see no meat or bread.” Fuel is also in short supply. Residents of Kramatorsk said there was only one petrol station serving both their city and Slavyansk, 15 kilometres away. One filling station was reportedly blown up, while others were closed because of the fighting.
