THEATRE director Ant Stones, originally Burley Gate, is returning to his beloved city of Hereford for his latest production the Word on the Street.

On June 29 and July 6, seven plays will be performed in secret spots on the streets of Hereford city. The stories tell surprisingly true and unknown tales about Hereford’s wonderful city and people. Upon booking the meeting point will be revealed. From here, theatregoers receive a map to show the locations of every play, which will be performed every 15 minutes from 10am till 4.45pm.

Stones is Feral Productions’ new associate artist and says the Word on the Street is a celebration of plays for the people of Hereford by the people of Hereford.

I’m really proud of Hereford. For a small place it’s got so much going for it and I wanted to celebrate the city and its people,” said Stones. “The Word on The Street is important to me as so many local people have been involved in its creation. The plays we’ve created really are stories about Hereford by the people of Hereford.”

Stones attended Hereford Cathedral School and graduated in English and Theatre from Warwick University before his Masters in Theatre Directing at Birkbeck, London. After a period of theatre-making in London, he joined the Guildford Shakespeare Company for nine years where he directed classics by the Bard, such as Macbeth, Romeo & Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

“I always knew my time away was limited,” said Stones. “Getting the train back to the South-East at the holidays became harder and harder. My family and my best friends are still here and this is where I wanted to raise my family. I was also keen to try making theatre in a different area, somewhere that doesn’t often benefit from new work.”

Rehearsals are now underway for this exciting street theatre event with tickets priced from £13 -£15.
