In 2015, Victoria Cilliers suffered what appeared to be a skydiving accident, which saw both her main and reserve parachutes fail.

The horrific incident sent Victoria plummeting straight into the ground from 4,000 ft. But it was no accident, and after detectives spent the next two years unravelling her husband Emile Cillier's life, they found affairs, debts, escorts, sex clubs - and his involvement in what happened to his wife's parachutes.

A true-crime series that begins tonight (June 11) on Channel 4 features exclusive documentary interviews, including the first in-depth TV interview with Victoria Cilliers, after her Army sergeant husband was jailed for a minimum of 18 years back in 2018.

Emile Cilliers, of the Royal Army Physical Training Corps, also tried to kill her by causing a gas leak at the family home. In sentencing, Mr Justice Sweeney told him he was "of quite exceptional callousness and a person who would stop at nothing to gratify your own desires".

The judge said Emile's three motives were, concern his senior officer wife would "ruin" his Army career, the money he thought he would receive from her life insurance, and that his wife's death would clear the way for another woman.

Who is Victoria Cilliers?

Victoria Cilliers, 48, is a trained physiotherapist who served in the Army, reaching the rank of captain. She has two children and lives in Wiltshire.

In 2015, her husband suggested she, an experienced parachutist, go skydiving. He then sabotaged her kit the night before.

Despite sustaining life-threatening injuries she survived, eventually finding out this was her husband's second attempt of murdering her.

Earlier this year, Victoria appeared on ITV's Loose Women, she said: "[Emile] came out of nowhere, it was a bit like a lovebomb. He promised me pretty much everything that I wanted, it felt like a fairy-tale."

Victoria said there were a few red flags she initially dismissed. She thought he may have been having an affair but "every time I brought it up, he'd turn it around and I ended up apologising to him".

She said the skydive was a fairly normal gift from her husband, as she had a love of skydiving. On her life now, she told the panel she had met someone.

Victoria said she had "tried dating tentatively" but that it "becomes too much when you try and explain the circumstances". She continued: "But this sort of happened organically, and it's someone that I didn't have to explain my life to".

Her story was also made into Netflix documentary The Parachute Murder Plot last year.

The Fall: Skydive Murder Plot is a three-part series that begins tonight, Tuesday, at 9pm on Channel 4 and All 4
