William H. Macy couldn't be more excited for wife Felicity Huffman amid her big return to acting.

After serving her sentence in the college admissions scandal, Huffman has slowly dipped her toes back into the acting world. She made her U.K. stage debut earlier this year in a revival of Taylor Mac's Hir. Later, she made an appearance on The Good Doctor and voiced a character on the Supreme: The Battle for Roe.

PEOPLE then confirmed in April that Huffman, 61, will guest star on season 2 of the Criminal Minds spinoff Criminal Minds: Evolution. And according to Macy, the actress “had a great time” filming the show.

"It was great! I went to visit her on the set a couple of times,” Macy, 74, told Entertainment Tonight of his wife’s return to the screen following her involvement in the nationwide college admissions scandal. "I think she did a great job, too. I'm really glad she's working."

The Shameless star told the outlet that he and Huffman, who have been married since 1997, “talk the talk and walk the walk” when it comes to their shared career.

“We give each other each other's scripts and we give each other notes. We somehow make it work," he added.

In Criminal Minds: Evolution, Huffman will star as Dr. Jill Gideon — the ex-wife of the late Jason Gideon (Mandy Patinkin). Her character is “a brilliant biological psychiatrist, who agrees to help the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit investigate a murderous conspiracy theory,” according to a description from the streamer.

“Jill is reluctant to return to the bureau’s elite team given her complicated history with David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) and her dead ex-husband, Jason Gideon (previously played by original series star Mandy Patinkin), but soon realizes her specific skill set could help them uncover another clue to the elusive Gold Star mystery."

Her casting in Criminal Minds: Evolution came three and half years after she completed her full sentence for the college admissions scandal in October 2020, which included jail time, community service and supervised release.

She pled guilty in May 2019 to paying disgraced admissions consultant Rick Singer $15,000 to have a proctor change her daughter Sophia's answers after she took the SAT examination, and served 11 days of her 14-day prison sentence in October 2019. She was also sentenced to 250 hours of community service and was on supervised release for one year.

Macy, with whom she shares Sophia, now 23, and daughter Georgia, 22, was not charged.

Huffman was previously slated to star on the legal spinoff of The Good Doctor, titled The Good Lawyer, but ABC decided not to move forward with the show following the writers’ strikes, according to Deadline.

She marked her first TV appearance post-prison playing Janet Stewart in one episode of The Good Doctor, which aired in March 2023. She later told The Guardian that it's "been hard" getting back into acting since the nationwide scandal.

"Sort of like your old life died and you died with it. I'm lucky enough to have a family and love and means, so I had a place to land," she told the outlet in February.

"I'm grateful to be here. But how am I? I guess I'm still processing," she added. "I walk into the room with it. I did it. It's black and white."
