Woman cut free from car after crashing into tree

An elderly woman has been rushed to hospital after a serious crash in Devon. The victim of the crash, an 82-year-old woman, had to be cut free from the wreckage following the single-vehicle crash near Sidmouth.

Emergency services were called to the A3052 in Branscombe on Saturday (June 29) around 2.40pm. A Toyota Yaris veered off the A3052 and collided with a tree.

The driver of the car was trapped in the wreckage and had to be cut free by the fire service. She was taken to hospital for treatment but it is not thought she suffered serious injuries.

The A3052 was shut for three-and-a-half hours while police conducted an investigation and the car was removed.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward. A statement from Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Anyone who witnessed the incident or may have relevant dashcam footage is to contact police online or by telephone on 101, quoting log 516 of 29 June.”
