Wrexham fans appear to have spotted striker Ollie Palmer in the new Deadpool and Wolverine trailer - and Ryan Reynolds has fanned the flames of speculation.

The new Marvel trailer was released last night. In the opening scene with Deadpool and Wolverine, played by Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, there is a figure in the background who looks eerily like the Wrexham man.

Reds fans flocked to social media channel X to discuss the surprise cameo. One fan said: “Wait. Is that THE Ollie Palmer as an extra in the bar scene?”

In response to one such tweet, Reynolds chipped in, with the actor replying to the Wrexham Fearless In Devotion X account, saying: “Keen eyesight.”

Palmer also suggested he featured, commenting on Reynolds’ Instagram post when he shared the trailer.

“If you squint...” posted Palmer.

Reynolds and Palmer’s comments appear to all but confirm that it really is the Wrexham man.

Fans are now wondering if Palmer will be the only Wrexham player to feature in the film, with many questioning whether star man Paul Mullin will also appear.

One fan said: “Would love a scene where Deadpool takes his mask off and it’s Mullin.”

While the appearance may not be a massive surprise to those aware of Reynolds’ love for the north Wales club, the 32-year-old striker, who’s played for 12 different sides in his career, probably never expected to be involved in a Hollywood blockbuster.

Palmer joined the club in January 2022 and scored his 40th goal for Wrexham in their win over Crewe Alexandra at the weekend.

His appearance could attract a new host of Welsh fans to the upcoming film, which is set to be released on July 26, 2024.

Wolverine actor Jackman has been one of the many well-known faces to visit Wrexham since Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over the club three years ago. He watched on as Wrexham made their return to the Football League last August.
