Youths throw rocks at marked police car in Winsford smashing windscreen

Youths have thrown rocks at a marked police car on the A54 in Winsford, smashing its windscreen. There have also been reports of rocks being thrown onto other vehicles from a footbridge on the road.

Cheshire Police say at around 8.50pm on Thursday, May 16, officers were driving a marked police vehicle along the A54 Oakmere Road in Winsford, near to the overhead footbridge.

Unknown offenders proceeded to throw rocks from the footbridge, which made impact with the police vehicle and smashed the windscreen, obscuring the driver’s view. No injuries were caused.

At 4.45pm on Monday, May 20, police received a further report of three youths throwing stones and rocks from the footbridge.

Officers are now appealing for anyone with any information about these incidents to get in touch with them.

Inspector David Levins said: “This behaviour is incredibly dangerous and puts road users at serious risk.

“Not only can it cause damage to vehicles, but could potentially injure drivers and passengers, as well as cause a road traffic accident on an incredibly busy section of road.

“These incidents are currently isolated, however we are urging parents and carers to talk to their children about the dangers of this kind of behaviour and the serious consequences which could come from it.
