Andersonstown Road: Woman taken to hospital after crash 'involving car and pedestrian'

A woman has been taken to hospital following a crash involving a car and a pedestrian in West Belfast.

Police and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended the scene on the Andersonstown Road, with the crash reported at approximately 12.15pm today, Wednesday, May 8.

One person was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital for treatment to their injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening, police said. The Andersonstown Road was closed in both directions between Kennedy Way and Finaghy Road North but has since been reopened.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the PSNI added: "Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or with CCTV or other footage that could assist with enquiries, is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 734 of 08/05/24."

SDLP councillor Paul Doherty told Belfast Live: "I attended the scene in Andersonstown this afternoon shortly after a woman was struck by a vehicle on the busy road. Ambulance and police services were quickly on the scene and began to treat the woman and close the road.

"I want to commend the Andersonstown Leisure Centre staff and Council staff as well as people in the community who quickly stepped up for all involved during this. My thoughts are with everyone involved in this incident today."

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said: "The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 12:11 on Wednesday, 8th May following reports of an RTC in the Andersontown Road Area, Belfast

"NIAS despatched one Emergency crew, a Doctor, a Paramedic and two Paramedics to the incident. One patient was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital by Ambulance."
