A Nottingham sewing shop is up for sale after its owners announced their retirement. Coles Sewing Centre, run by Neil and Rose Coles, has been a fixture on Lower Parliament Street in the city centre for 28 years.

But the husband and wife, who opened the shop in 1996, have decided the time is right to step down as the end of their lease approaches in December. Now, a buyer is sought to continue the shop's legacy and "vibrant community spirit" for the stitchers of Nottingham, the UK and beyond.

Rose said: "We are deeply grateful to our customers in Nottingham, across the UK and around the world for their unwavering support over the years. It has been a fantastic journey, and we have cherished every moment.

"We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our team members, both past and present, who have been instrumental in our success, especially during the challenges posed by the pandemic."

If a buyer is not found before the end of the year, the Coles have said that the shop will, sadly, have to close its doors for good. But while no new sales would be made, the company's service department will remain open from a new, currently undisclosed location so that warranties can be honoured and repairs and services can continue to be made.

For now, the business will continue to operate as usual, with trading continuing through summer and autumn and sewing classes running until December. Outstanding orders will be fulfilled.

Neil and Rose say they plan to think about retirement when they give up the shop. Rose said: "We opened Coles Sewing Centre when our children were young, and now they have children and are starting businesses of their own. It's time for us to enjoy this next phase of life and spend more time with our growing family."

Potential buyers are asked to contact Neil on 0115 988 1550, in person at the shop or via email, neil@colessewingcentre.co.uk.
