Edinburgh passengers face disruption after train strikes fallen tree on tracks

A train has struck a fallen tree on the line on Tuesday afternoon.

ScotRail and Network Rail Scotland alerted passengers at around 1.39pm on April 9 as train services between Edinbugh and West Lothian face disruption.

The line between Bathgate and Edinburgh is currently closed as Network Rail Scotland staff are on the way to assist. Another tree has crashed into the overhead lines at Livingston North Station.

This comes as Edinburgh and the Lothians are under a yellow weather warning in the aftermath of Storm Kathleen which uprooted trees across the the city.

For Tuesday, heavy downpours of rain and gusts of wind reaching over 30 miles per hour are expected.

Network Rail Scotland said: "Our teams are on their way to Livingston North station, where a train has struck a fallen tree, and another has damaged the overhead wires in the area. The line between Bathgate and Edinburgh is closed. We’ll share more information soon."

ScotRail added: "There’s an object on the line between Livingston North & Uphall which is blocking the route. @NetworkRailSCOT staff are on their way to investigate. As a result, trains between Bathgate and Edinburgh are subject to cancellation, delay or revision.

"Train services between Helensburgh Central and Edinburgh will be cancelled, delayed or terminated at and started back from Bathgate."

Bus replacement services are being arranged.
