Full list of Guildford roads closed this week as unique cycle race visits town centre

Road closures will be in place on Wednesday, July 3, as the Guildford Town Centre Races turns the town into a racecourse. Cyclists hurtling down the cobblestones means that the high-street will be closed for large sections for the day.

Vehicles will be prohibited from going down seven sections of road between noon and 10pm. With the race taking in much of the town centre, the area will likely also be busy for shoppers as people gather to watch.

The list of closed roads includes:

  1. The Length of High Street (A3100) Guildford as extends from its junction with (D4015) Quarry Street to its junction with (A246) Epsom Road and (A3100) London Road

  2. The length of North Street (C93) Guildford as extends from its junction with (A320) Chertsey Street to its junction with (C93) Leapale Road

  3. The entire length of Market Street (D4004) Guildford

  4. The length of Haydon Place (D4004) Guildford as extends from its junction with (C93) North Street to its junction with (D4004) Martyr Road

  5. The entire length of Ward Street (D4004) Guildford

  6. The length of Chertsey Street (A320) Guildford as extends from its junction with (C93) North Street to its junction with (D4004) Martyr Road.

  7. The length of Tunsgate (D4016 Guildford as extends from its junction with (D4015) High Street to its junction with (D4015) Castle Street.

The unusual makeup of the race course means that it provides a challenge for cyclists. The circuit is only of the few in the UK to race through a town centre with the cobblestones adding a new challenge. Cyclists will take in the high-street, descend down North Street and then go back up the paved Market Street.

There will be a varied series of races. with the day starting with the kids before the national circuit races kick off with some of the best riders in the country. Everyone is encouraged to come and watch.

It comes as sections of the A3 near Guildford will be closed for resurfacing. The closures, including entry and exit slip roads, will take place from 9 pm to 6 am over a period of nearly two weeks. The timings can sometimes overrun, so commuters are urge dto check before they travel.
