Viewers of ITV's 1% Club were left gobsmacked after a contestant made an embarrassing geography blunder. The contestant, named Toby, seemed to lack basic knowledge about the UK's geography.

He was asked the question: An Engilshman (sic), an Irishman and a Scotsman walk into a bar. Which one is wrong?

The correct answer was "Englishman", which was intentionally misspelt for the question. However, Toby's response left host Lee stunned when he chose "Scotsman".

When asked why he picked that answer, Toby confessed: "I honestly had no idea/ I didn't think that was a real word...Scotsman. I didn't think that was a real word.", reports the Express.

A shocked Lee then asked: "Did you not think it was a real country?" Toby then revealed his geographical confusion by saying: "I thought Manchester was in Scotland until yesterday when apparently it's not."

This revelation left Lee even more surprised. Suspecting a joke, he asked Toby: "Are you taking the Mickey?" "No, no," Toby insisted. "Because I'm from London," he added, leaving Lee even more astounded.

"Oh well, that's all right now. I didn't realise you're from London. We'll allow you to say anything," Lee joked.

Twitter user @WhoPotterVian expressed their disbelief, tweeting: "What the heck? He thought MANCHESTER was in SCOTLAND? Has he NEVER seen an episode of Coronation Street in his life? #The1PercentClub."

Twitter user @bvdsteel couldn't resist a jibe, tweeting: "He looks about 12, thinks manchester is scottish and they wont let ME on the show #the1percentclub."

In similar disbelief, @JillHudson21 posted: "He thought Manchester was in Scotland? ? Feck! ! ! #The1PerCentClub."
