Jessica Jones Season 2 will be directed entirely by women

‘Marvel’s Jessica Jones’ is leading the way for gender equality.

According to Executive Producer Melissa Rosenberg, ‘Jessica Jones’ will be back with an all-female line up of directors for its second season… and it definitely feels rather fitting.

“All 13 episodes of @JessicaJones S2 will be directed by women, EP Melissa Rosenberg says at her @transformhwood panel. @tallgirlmel #TH7” reports Variety critic, Mo Ryan via Twitter.

Of course, it feels like a very natural fit.

The first season of ‘Jessica Jones’ introduced Marvel’s first female superhero to lead her own solo project… and while the film universe will soon be following suit with Captain Marvel, it looks as though Jessica Jones will forever be Marvel’s first female lead.

On TV, at least.

Now, it looks as though it will be moving even further towards gender equality by ensuring the crew behind the series will be helmed by all female directors. And this is something we can definitely get on board with - after all, the first season was double the average compared to other US TV shows.

That’s an impressive one-third of the first season directors who were women.

But now ‘Jessica Jones’ is going even further.

Obviously, this is a huge step in the right direction… and considering the show’s focus on female empowerment, it makes an awful lot of sense. Will Marvel Studios follow suit with its big screen efforts? Well, word is that the upcoming ‘Captain Marvel’ is currently looking for a female director.

But what can we expect from ‘Jessica Jones’ Season Two?

“She was kind of messed up even before Kilgrave came along and so in Season Two we can explore what’s possible for her moving forward,” said Melissa Rosenberg in an interview with Empire. “I learned from working on Dexter that you can advance the character, but you never want to cure the character…that trauma is a huge part of who she is now.”

‘Jessica Jones’ Season Two is expected to debut late 2017.
