Key Nottingham tram route closed for two weeks as residents told to expect noise

Tram passengers face two weeks of disruption while works are carried out to improve the track. There is no service between The Forest and Old Market Square, affecting the High School, Nottingham Trent University and Royal Centre stops.

Network operator Nottingham Express Transit (NET) said this was due to essential tram track improvements and warned residents near the 24/7 works could experience noise. Replacement bus services are running every ten minutes between The Forest Park and Ride tram stop and Market Street near Old Market Square before normal service resumes on July 16.

Trams departing from Clifton South towards Phoenix Park and trams departing from Toton Lane towards Hucknall are terminating at Old Market Square. Trams departing from Hucknall towards Toton Lane and trams departing from Phoneix Park towards Clifton South will terminate at the Forest.

Trevor Stocker, NET head of operations, warned people living near the stretch may "experience some noise" while the works are carried out. He said: “We’re committed to ensuring the optimal safety and reliability for our tram users, and these track works are an essential part of that.

"Some of our tram tracks have been operating since 2004, so with natural wear and tear, this type of maintenance work allows us to keep everything running smoothly – especially on such a key and highly-used part of our tram network.

“Like with any of our improvement works, we put steps in place to keep disruption levels to a minimum. The track works starting on Tuesday, July 2 will be ongoing 24/7, so noise prevention measures will be implemented. However, people may experience some noise while the works are taking place, just for a short period of time.

“We ask that all affected tram users plan ahead, allow additional time for their journeys and become familiar with our replacement bus service. Normal service is set to resume Monday 15 July as we head into the working week.”
