Lorraine Stanley has admitted she felt a "mix of emotions" about the fact she's leaving EastEnders - and joked that if she goes to another soap it would have to be Coronation Street.

The actor has been playing Walford's Karen Taylor since 2017, but earlier this year it was reported that the character had been axed and Stanley then confirmed that she was leaving the BBC soap.

At the time she posted a message on Instagram thanking writer Daran Little for creating the Taylor family and saying that she would be sad to wrap up her role as launderette worker Karen.

She has now opened up further about her upcoming exit, telling The Sun that although she was "sad", it was also "exciting" as she can now "go and do what I want".

"You can get a bit relaxed there and a bit comfortable," said the star, 47.

"So I want to be out of my comfort zone."

As well as EastEnders, Stanley is also known for the film London To Brighton and roles in television shows such as London's Burning, Cradle To Grave, Holby City, Mayday and Doctors.

Asked if she would take another trip to soapland after leaving Albert Square, she suggested she wouldn't say no to a stint on the cobbles.

And she knows exactly the kind of character she would like to play in the ITV programme.

"If I did, I think it would have to be Corrie and I would have to be the new landlady," Stanley said.

The actor's character will apparently be written out of the soap by the end of the year.
