Martin Lewis says people can save £100 on household bill but must 'lock in now'

Martin Lewis has issued a £100 alert to energy bill payers - and says customers can "lock in" a fix at well under the price cap. In his latest Money Saving Expert newsletter, Mr Lewis, the BBC Sounds and ITV regular, explained: "There's a small spark of recovery in energy switching with a handful of new cheaper fixes."

Mr Lewis says these are "materially cheaper than the current Price Cap". He went on: "Below we list the market's cheapest standalone deals, though rates vary by region, and savings vary with usage - so your results likely won't be in the order below. Most are fixes, with the key strength that you lock in the rate for a year (though what you pay depends on usage)."

In the latest MSE newsletter, the team wrote: "Lock in a price undercutting predicted Price Cap. Many can switch, save £100+ and get peace of mind, though they may not be around long." The three fixes highlighted by MSE include the EDF Essentials 1Yr May25 fix.

But it is "unlikely to be around long". The tariff - 7 per cent less on average - is for new abd existing customers on dual fuel or elec-only with a monthly Direct Debit or pay in receipt of bills or smart prepay. Customers need have/apply for a smart meter.

The British Gas one year fix is five per cent less on average for new and existing customers and d ual fuel, elec-only or gas-only. It is monthly/quarterly Direct Debit or pay in receipt of bills and the Outfox the Market 1yr Apr 25 fix is also available, Mr Lewis says.

It is for new and existing customers on dual fuel monthly and Direct Debit only and it doesn't require a smart meter, the MSE team has said in its latest newsletter.

Sharing the guide on Twitter/X today, Mr Lewis typed: "A few cheaper energy fixes have now launched, full info, pros & cons here..."
