Court cases, controversies and spats have all sparked searches for these celebrities' names in 2022.

Some of them will remember this year for all the wrong reasons, while others have seen their popularity soar.

Collated from millions of searches on Yahoo, these were the celebrities you were searching for the most over the past 12 months.

10. Susanna Reid

Good Morning Britain's anchor makes the news as much as she reads it, and although she hasn't had to deal with a co-star walking out live on air this year, she's still been a popular search.

From grilling politicians to tearing up over a Ukrainian refugee child singing Let It Go and impressing fans by queuing hours to see the Queen lying in state, Reid has grabbed the headlines a number of times in 2022.

9. Piers Morgan

Perhaps nothing will beat his on-air walk out over a Good Morning Britain Meghan Markle row in 2021, but things have been far from quiet for Morgan this year.

He returned to live broadcasting with a flagship news show on Rupert Murdoch's TalkTV that has featured interviews which have grabbed global attention - most notably with Donald Trump and Kanye West.

On social media, his gripes about Harry, Meghan and various other celebrities rumble on.

8. Britney Spears

The popstar has shaken off the shackles of her conservatorship and is enjoying her freedom, posting regular Instagram updates for her fans.

However, she and her husband Sam Asghari were forced to hit back at an interview with ex Kevin Federline who claimed she was embarrassing their teenage sons with revealing photos of herself.

7. Helen Skelton

Countryfile presenter Skelton might have been searched for over heartbreaking reasons earlier in the year when husband Richie Myler left her when their third child was just four months old.

But she's ending the year with plenty of searches for much happier reasons as she made the final of Strictly Come Dancing and thrilled fans with a "revenge dance" that changed the narrative of her 2022.

6. Carol Vorderman

Maths genius Vorderman's legions of fans always keep her high in the search rankings and this year she also boosted attention by covering for Lorraine Kelly while she was sick with COVID.

Vorderman's love life continued to keep her fans fascinated as she admitted she was happier single and got fulfilment from some "special friends" - including an unnamed astronaut.

5. Amber Heard

Two celebrity court cases dominated the headlines this year - Wagatha Christie, and Johnny Depp's defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard.

Delving into excruciating detail about their turbulent marriage, the pair's testimonies generated headline after headline, with Heard sticking by her evidence and attempting to claim a mistrial after the verdict went in Depp's favour.

4. Katie Price

There's rarely a year when Pricey isn't up there in the search rankings and she had a controversial start to the year with Ofcom complaints about a TV interview on her drink driving crash that hit the news in late 2021.

Other stories about the star that people were searching for this year included her opening up on going into rehab after her crash, another well-received documentary with son Harvey about his life at residential college, her complicated on-off relationship with Carl Woods, and a restraining order taken out against her by ex Kieran Hayler's new partner.

3. Holly Willoughby

Queen of daytime TV Willoughby does not often fall foul of the general public, but this year the number of searches about her were upped for the wrong reasons.

She and This Morning co-star Phillip Schofield found themselves at the centre of queuegate when they joined a media line to walk through Westminster Hall where the Queen was lying in state and were accused of jumping the queue that others had waited in for up to 14 hours.

They eventually made a statement about the controversy during an episode where Willoughby told viewers "please know, we would never jump a queue".

2. Amanda Holden

It seems people never tire of reading about Holden's latest exploits, who has once again made the top 10 of Yahoo's most searched for celebrities.

She's the most searched UK star on our list and this year celebrated her birthday with an incredible cleavage cake modelled on her own body.

1. Johnny Depp

For the same reasons as his ex-wife Amber Heard, Depp was Yahoo's most searched for celebrity of 2022.

As well as the many uncomfortable details of his marriage, other stories about Depp exposed by the trial included claims about taking drugs with Marilyn Manson and that he apparently hid a diamond necklace for former partner Kate Moss in his bottom.

Following the trial, Depp was spotted on a night out in Newcastle with Sam Fender.
