A Red Arrows flypast in Surrey has been announced on Friday, July 5 that will fly over Capel and towns and villages in the west and east of the county. An exact flight path has not yet been made public where people can see the aerobatic display team, but it is understood the jets will be transiting the Southeast on their way to and from the Headcorn Battle of Britain Airshow in Kent on the same day.

The flypast was confirmed by organisers of the Capel Military Show, who were able to call in a similar favour from the RAF poster boys in 2023 . The show said in June: “The Capel Military Show team is thrilled to confirm that the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Display Team, the Red Arrows, will close the show on Friday, July 5.”

They continued: “Helping us celebrate the show’s very first three-day event, the Reds will be overhead at approximately 4pm on Friday for a flypast.” The Capel Military Show organisers added: “The Red Arrows are also celebrating this year with their 60th season in the famous red Hawks and as one of the world’s premier aerobatic teams representing the speed, agility, and precision of the Royal Air Force, the team is the public face of the service.

“They assist in recruiting to the armed forces, act as ambassadors for the United Kingdom at home and overseas, and promote the best of British.” The Capel Military Show has described itself as the best in the Southeast and promised a “bigger, better, and more action-packed show than ever before”.

Organisers teased online: “We have more of everything you love, cars to be crushed, big guns to be fired, battles to be fought and a host of military and civilian helicopters.” The show will also have a range of children’s entertainment such as inflatables, mini tanks, climbing walls, and archery, as well as food and drink stalls.

The Capel Military Show is open from 9am until 5pm on Friday, July 5, Saturday, July 6, and Sunday, July 7. Organisers announced in May that a duo of Spitfires will perform a series of flypasts on Sunday in commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of Operation OVERLORD.

The Red Arrows is made up of a team of pilots, engineers, and essential support staff with frontline operational experience. Together, they fly in distinctive Hawk jets for spectacular displays to demonstrate the excellence and capabilities of the RAF and the service’s skilled personnel.

All Red Arrows display pilots are understood to have flown operationally in frontline aircraft such as the Typhoon. The team is based out of RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire and has flown almost 5,000 displays in 57 countries by the start of 2024.

Capel Military Show advised that the Red Arrows flypast is subject to weather conditions and operations.
