Over 100 Stranded Dolphins Rescued in Cape Cod

Over 100 stranded dolphins were rescued in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, on Friday, June 28, according to an animal welfare organization.

Footage filmed and posted to Facebook by Don Yovicsin shows members of the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and the local community working together to rescue the stranded dolphins in Wellfleet on Friday.

The organization said the stranding was the largest they had dealt with in their 26-year history monitoring Cape Cod.

According to a local news outlet, over 100 of the approximately 125 stranded dolphins were rescued successfully.

IFAW spokesperson Stacey Hedman told local news that there was no known reason for the stranding, but that Cape Cod is a global stranding hot spot because of the curvature of the shore and the fluctuation of the tides. Credit: Don Yovicsin via Storyful
