Search for missing man, 86, enters third day

The search for a missing 86-year-old man from a Suffolk village has entered its third day.

Hugh Edgecombe was last seen in Long Melford, near Sudbury, at about 2pm on Wednesday.

Officers have been carrying out a number of lines of enquiries to find Mr Edgecombe, including CCTV analysis tracing his movement.

Police are currently focusing their search along the River Stour and in Liston Lane in the village.

On Wednesday night, the helicopter from the National Police Air Service was called in to assist with the search.

On Thursday firefighters were spotted in Liston Lane using poles to search the river banks.

Mr Edgecombe is described as a white male who is 5ft 10ins tall, with a medium build and grey hair.

He was last seen wearing a navy-blue waterproof jacket, black shorts and black shoes.

Mr Edgecombe was also carrying a walking stick and yellow shopping bag.

On Thursday, a spokesman for Suffolk police said: "We are carrying out a number of enquiries to find Hugh, including tracing his movements on CCTV and doorbell footage in the local area.

"Police have been assisted by a helicopter from the National Police Air Service, Suffolk Fire and Rescue and volunteers from Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue."
