Strictly Come Dancing star Katya Jones has opened up about the "never-ending topic of being single".

The dancer was formerly married to fellow professional Neil Jones for six years, before the couple split in 2019.

Speaking on the Monday Mile podcast alongside friend Aimee Fuller in Australia, the host brought up "the topic of being single".

"The never-ending topic of being single…," Katya joked.

Aimee then spoke about getting older, asking her friend: "On the topic of age, you are approaching 35 years old. Does it concern you that the maternal clock that is very much in discussion currently in the media is ticking ever so close?"

"Yes, you know, when I wake up in the morning and look in the mirror, and I go to the gym to the classes," Katya added. "You feel young, and you don't think, ‘Oh my god, I've got to start thinking about my maternal clock’. I think there's two sides to it.

"The wonderful side of it is, it just proves that modern females of our age, we can have careers, we can pursue our passions. We can do what we love, we can still look after ourselves, first of all right? And be happy and fulfilled on our own and I think that's a beautiful part of it.

"However, on the other side, it doesn't stop our maternal clock or our ageing process, unfortunately. So how do you balance those two things?"

Aimee quipped that they could "meet [their] husbands tonight at the opera bar", and that if Katya "had a baby with somebody" in Australia, then she'd "have to move here".

The dancer then added: "But here I am, at 35, walking with my best friend in Australia having an amazing career. But thinking of the future, this is the reality of my life."

Back in later 2022, Katya spoke about her romantic life since her split from Neil, telling The Daily Mail: "I don’t have a lot of time for dating while I’m competing, but I don’t want anyone unless they will add value to my life.

"I don’t want someone just to fill the gaps that I might have in my life, neither do I want to fill any of the gaps in theirs."

Strictly Come Dancing will return later this year on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

Tickets for Strictly Come Dancing: The Professionals live tour are available now.
