Suicidal woman stopped from jumping after Chinese firefighters blast her back with a jet of water

This is the moment firefighters shoot a woman with a high-powered water cannon after she threatens to throw herself from her third-floor window.

The suicidal woman from Wenzhou city, in East China’s Zhejiang province, was approached by rescuers both inside her home and from the ground floor.

The fire service and local police spent some 30 minutes speaking to the woman after she climbed out the open window and threatened to jump.

She refused to communicate with rescuers who were unable to talk her down.

Footage of the tense standoff shows one fireman bravely leaping out an adjacent window holding an extendable clothes hanger reacher, which he uses to prod the woman in hopes of pushing her back into the room.

The rescuer is being held by his colleagues and hangs dangerously outside the building while trying to save the female resident.

But the woman appears back in the window again, and, fearing she may be about to jump, firefighters on the ground turn on the high-velocity water cannon and and aim it right at her.

The stream of water hits the woman full on and forces her back through the window into her home, where other officers were able to restrain her before escorting her away.

In the footage filmed by a neighbouring resident, a man can be heard saying: ‘Here she comes again! Nice one.’

Police said the woman was taken away by paramedics.

They have not disclosed her name or the reasons behind her suicide attempt.

The incident happened earlier this week.
