Beloved Emmy Award-winning actress and presenter Hannah Waddingham has confirmed she's received an apology from the photographer who made an inappropriate comment to her on the red carpet at the Olivier Awards. Hannah, 49, who is perhaps best known for playing Rebecca Welton in the comedy series Ted Lasso and for presenting the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool last year, was chosen to host and perform at the Olivier Awards in the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday, April 14.

On arrival at the venue, Hannah posed for photos on the red carpet - but soon walked away from a photographer after he allegedly made a comment about her legs. In a video from the incident that has since gone viral on social media, Hannah could be heard speaking to a photographer and saying: "Oh my God, you'd never say that to a man," adding: "Don’t be a d*** otherwise I’ll move off.

"Don’t say 'show me leg'. No." She then shook her head and began walking away, before telling the photographer: "Have a good night".

Fans and fellow actors have rallied behind Hannah on social media for calling the photographer out for his words. Among them, BBC Radio 1 presenter Dean McCullough wrote on X/Twitter: "Yeah so what we're not gonna do is ask women like Hannah Waddingham to get their legs out for pictures… it's 2024, grow up slimey old pap man."

Appearing on Wednesday's The One Show with Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas after the Olivier Awards and ahead of her new movie The Fall Guy, which also stars Ryan Gosling, heading to cinemas next month, Hannah said the awards ceremony was "just magical" and explained how she wanted her performance opening the ceremony not to be a solo, but to be a huge performance featuring lots of people and a choir. After viewers saw a clip from her epic performance, The One Show host Alex Jones praised her singing and asked Hannah how she is doing, after the incident with the photographer. "Many people had already applauded you on the red carpet, after your comment to the paparazzi. How are you, Hannah, at the other end of that?" she said.

"Thank you, mate, that's a very nice thing to say, actually," Hannah replied. "And I know we know each other - I'm good. I called out what needed to be. Absolutely necessary to call out and I've received a written apology so now I'm so ready to move on and I'm not having it overshadow what was the most - I think even more so than last year - the most glorious, joyful, positive night.

"I don't usually say this, but I was really flipping proud of that night - it did exactly what we wanted it to do, the whole place erupted like a bunch of lunatics. So that's what the take away should be."

BBC's The One Show continues on Thursday at 7pm on BBC One. You can see Hannah Waddingham in her upcoming film The Fall Guy in UK cinemas in May.
