Tesco has cheapest petrol prices in Stoke-on-Trent right now

Supermarket giant Tesco is offering the cheapest petrol in Stoke-on-Trent - right now. Tesco Meir Park is offering the best deal at 145.9p-a-litre - costing £80.25 to fill an average 55-litre tank.

The average price for a litre of petrol across the Stoke-on-Trent region this week is 148p.

According to the latest data supplied by retailers, a driver in an average family car could save up to £2.20 by filling up at Tesco Meir Park, compared to the most expensive petrol station. This is based on a feed of live petrol prices which was set up by the Government's Competition and Markets Authority in September.

It comes as a Government body has issued an alert to all motorists concerning the price of fuel. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) released new data showing ‘concerning’ information about prices at the pumps across the country.

Dan Turnbull, senior director of markets at the CMA, said: “Drivers are feeling the pinch as fuel prices have been edging up since January. We’re particularly concerned by high margins which indicate weakened competition and are not a good sign for drivers."
