Truck Driver Scrambles Out of Cab as Vehicle Sinks in Texas Floods

A truck driver was seen scrambling out of his fast-sinking vehicle after driving into floodwater near Shepherd, Texas, on Thursday, May 2.

Footage recorded by Athina Economon shows the heartstopping moments when the driver pulls himself from the cab of the truck as the vehicle is sinking.

Bystanders can be heard shouting, “Get out!” to the driver.

“We were trapped on both sides by flooding, and the water was too deep to continue,” Economon told Storyful.

“Some semi-trucks decided to proceed anyway, and this trucker went off the side of the road into the creek current,” she added.

Almost 20 people were rescued from floodwaters in Shepherd on Thursday, local media reported.

US-59 at Shepherd remained close on Friday, officials said.
