Hit noughties sitcom Two Pints of Lager and A Packet of Crisps looks set to make a return to TV after a 10-year break.

The comedy made stars of Sheridan Smith, Ralf Little, Will Mellor and Natalie Casey, and it looks like at least some of the original cast will be back in the pub, too.

Creator Susan Nickson told the podcast Drama School Dropout that she was in talks with the BBC to revive the series, along with Mellor and Little who are also on board.

However, it sounded like discussions were moving painfully slowly as Nickson said: "So basically what you’ve got, it’s me, Will, Ralf and all three of us are just going 'yeah, we’re here, we’ll do it' and the BBC are going 'ah brilliant, yeah let’s do it' and I’m sort of sat here going 'OK, when?' and they do 'well, we don’t know'.

"So what we've got is a corporation that has no idea."

Hopefully it won't be too long until the Two Pints of Lager reboot is set in stone, as it sounds like Nickson has some clear ideas of where the plot will go next.

Explaining that she planned to refocus the series on Mellor's character Gaz and Little's character Jonny, she said that the now much older pair would be struggling to come to terms with the fact that women are often not treated well by men.

She said: "I want to see the comforting story of people like Gaz and Jonny, who live in a world where bad guys don’t exist. I want them to acknowledge the bad guys are out there though, but I don’t want Gaz and Jonny to be them."

However, while she hasn't confirmed the rest of the cast, it sounds like they would be surprised to see Sheridan Smith back as Janet.

Mellor recently told the Sunday Mirror: "I’ve not seen Sheridan or spoke to Sheridan in four years. I rang her for a while and just nothing, so I don’t know her anymore.

"I wish her all the best, but she hasn’t called me in years."
