Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine bring The Idea of You‘s forbidden romance to life in a new film based on the best-selling novel by Robinne Lee.
Now streaming on Prime Video, the R-rated film stars Hathaway as Solène Marchand, a 40-year-old single mom and art gallery owner who begrudgingly takes her teen daughter, Izzy, to see August Moon, the biggest boy band in the world. Solène unexpectedly falls in love with Hayes Campbell (Galitzine), the 24-year-old lead singer of the group, and the romance takes her on a whirlwind adventure of international stadium tours, art fairs and secret getaways — all under the watchful eye of paparazzi and obsessed fans.

At The Idea of You‘s red carpet premiere on Monday in New York, Hathaway told The Hollywood Reporter that the romance film “is one of my first streaming movies and so I just knew how special it was to get to see it with an audience, because that wouldn’t be the path that this movie was going to take.”
She also compared the response to the film with “instant audience love” of The Princess Diaries, another beloved film based on a book, that was a box office hit. (A third installment in the series is in the works.)
“It came out when I was 18, and the premiere of the movie felt so much like the premiere for this one. Hathaway said. “When I was 18 years old, it was my first premiere so I just thought that was the way it works, and it can go so well but that level of just instant audience love and embracing of it and feeling, I don’t know, that audience satisfaction, you don’t get that every single time. Sometimes movies are darker, sometimes movies are more challenging.”
