Martin Roberts, known for his role on Homes Under The Hammer, has opened up about the emotional challenges of being away from his family due to his latest venture. The TV host, who is married to Kirsty Roberts and father to two children, usually resides with his family in a quaint village near Bath.

However, his new commitment as the owner of the Hendrewen Inn and Hotel in Blaencwm, located at the top of the Rhondda Valley, an hour's drive from Cardiff, has demanded more of his time. The establishment is the only pub serving the local community.

At 60 years old, Martin acknowledges that his renovation project has sometimes meant spending less time at home, but he is grateful for his family's support. He said: "The family are really supportive, but the kids are at school so we have to keep the family boat sailing."

He detailed the juggling act of family life, saying, "As anyone with a [young] family will know it's taking them to dinner or to do after-school stuff and then getting them to school on time, then being with their friends that they've got at school," reports the Express.

Martin pointed out the importance of prioritising family, which doesn't always happen, and expressed gratitude towards his wife for managing the family's daily routine: "Luckily, my wife does it. She keeps on top of all of that so it does enable me to go off and carry on with my madcap project, which actually isn't madcap. I'm doing it for all the right reasons. And I'm enjoying it."

Martin said: "As tiring and heartbreaking at times as it is, you know, it's something I'm really, really enjoying and proud of, which is why we are filming it." Viewers don't have long to wait now, with Martin rolling out a YouTube series that documents the renovation from beginning to end.

Kirsty chimes in the trailer: "Just head is spinning right now in terms of how we turn this around." The major refurbishment has called upon local youngsters to lend a hand, allowing them a chance to pick up some vocational skills.

While TV appearances are familiar territory, Martin and Kirsty also command an extensive list of properties, making them no strangers to property revamps. Despite the tight budget constraints, Martin remains hopeful about injecting new life into the local community.
